Functional Medicine
A Comprehensive and Personalized Approach to Lifelong Health & Vitality
What is Functional Medicine? Functional Medicine is a drug-free approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness, rather than just treating symptoms. By understanding the interconnectedness of bodily systems and addressing underlying imbalances, Functional Medicine aims to optimize health, prevent disease, and promote vitality and well-being.
This comprehensive and personalized approach takes into account each individual’s unique genetic makeup, biochemical imbalances, environmental factors, and lifestyle habits to create a tailored treatment plan. With a strong emphasis on nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and holistic therapies, Functional Medicine empowers patients to take an active role in their health journey, leading to long-lasting and sustainable outcomes.
How is Functional Medicine different from Western medicine? Imagine a tree and each branch of that tree represents a different symptom. For example, some common complaints are anxiety, brain fog, weight gain, constipation and sore joints. Western medicine tends to treat each symptom separately (ie.prescribing anti-anxiety medication for anxiety, appetite suppressant for weight gain, laxitives for constipation, prednisone for sore joints, and ignoring the brain fog completely). Functional Medicine, however, looks at each branch, or symptom, and recognizes that they’re all attached the same tree. We look at the tree trunk and the roots of the tree to find the connection between all the symptoms and identify the root cause(s) of the complaints.
Here are a few ways in which we integrate Functional Medicine into our practice, and a few benefits our patients can expect:
Comprehensive Health Assessment: a thorough assessment that delves deeper into your medical history, lifestyle habits, diet, stress levels, and environmental exposures. This comprehensive approach allows us to identify underlying imbalances or contributing factors to health concerns.
Functional Lab Testing: We may utilize specialized laboratory tests to evaluate various aspects of a patient’s health, such as testing hormone levels, nutrient deficiencies, gut health, food sensitivities, or genetic predispositions. These tests provide valuable insights into the root causes of health problems and help tailor personalized treatment plans.
Lifestyle Modifications: Functional medicine emphasizes the importance of lifestyle factors, such as stress management, sleep quality, exercise, and environmental exposures, in promoting health and preventing disease. We are happy to educate our patients on how these lifestyle factors impact their well-being and provide strategies for making positive changes.
Nutritional Counseling: Nutritional guidance is a cornerstone of functional medicine. Chiropractors may offer dietary recommendations and lifestyle modifications to support optimal health and address specific health conditions. They may also recommend supplements or herbal remedies to address nutritional deficiencies or imbalances identified through lab testing.
Collaborative Care: We can work collaboratively with your other healthcare providers, such as primary care physicians, nutritionists, acupuncturists, and mental health professionals, to ensure comprehensive care for you. This interdisciplinary approach allows for a more holistic and integrative treatment plan tailored to the individual’s needs.
Empowerment and Education: One of the key benefits of incorporating functional medicine into our chiropractic practice is empowering our patients to take an active role in their health.
By educating you about the underlying causes of their health issues and providing them with the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions, we can help you achieve greater control over their well-being and long-term health outcomes.
Integrating functional medicine principles into our practice enables us to better address the root causes of our patients’ health issues, rather than just treating symptoms.

Five years later and I still LOVE Left Hand Chiropractic. I visit regularly for general adjustments to keep myself feeling great.
I LOVE left hand chiropractic. Dr Christine is so wonderful. She was able to help my colic / acid reflux 6 week old to go from sleeping a max of 1.5 hours straight to almost 7 hours straight! I live almost 45min away from left hand and I drive to see Dr Christine on a regular basis.
I am so grateful we found her and that she has been able to help our little guy. Dr Christine has a passion for helping expecting families and children that it shows in everything she does. Thank you again Dr Christine!
